Blogging the Fair (afternoon)
Wandering through the Midway, just past the giant alligators, I found fried tamales. Skeptical but intrigued, I put my 7 tickets down and bit in.
The balls were a bit dry on the outside but moist in the middle. The filling was a spicy riced tamale. It came with seven and that was plenty for a quick fix.
Chicken fried foods (steak or chicken) are in a class all their own. These are probably Texas' second favorite food (behind the "State Dish" of chili) and certainly iconic to any traveler on a road trip hungry for quick sustenance and a warm food coma. This site is devoted to exploring all that is good, breaded and fattening about chicken fried foods in Texas. Suggestions are most welcome for future visits -- my goal is to leave no hometown diner, drive-in, homestead or cafe out. Email suggestions to me at: chickenfriedtexan@gmail.com.
